Bring your documents safely
Upload readable files, use citations and understand what stays in your workspace.

Documents supports PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown and CSV. Each file can be up to 8 MB, and a PDF can have up to 100 pages. Use a valid, unencrypted file that contains selectable text.
Scanned-page text recognition is not available. If a PDF is only a photograph of a page, use a text-based version instead. Very long documents may need to be split into smaller files.
Open DocumentsAsk about the source
Upload a document from Documents or add one to a conversation. You can attach up to three documents to a message. Ask a focused question, and use page or section citations to return to the source.
The document text used for an answer is included with that request. Review the original passage when an answer matters, rather than relying on the generated summary alone.
Keep control of your files
Open a document to read it, download it or start a conversation about it. You can also delete it from Documents when you no longer need it for new answers.
Deleting a document does not rewrite existing conversations. Information already quoted in an answer may still be present in that conversation.
Protect your account
Use a unique password and sign out on shared devices. Account gives you separate actions to sign out here or revoke all device sessions.
For questions about personal information or data handling, read the Privacy page or contact us. Do not include passwords or sensitive source documents in an initial support email.
